About the Festival

Viva la Gong is Wollongong’s annual one-day sustainable community arts festival that brings to life the city’s creative spirit and cultural diversity.
This year expect to be thrilled by the diversity of talent that makes up the 2011 program, starting with the street parade that bursts into the park to signal the beginning of the Viva la Gong extravaganza. Be breathless at the skills of the circus artists and the antics of the roving performers, amazed by the talent of our local musicians and blown away by the national and international acts. Get inspired by the handmade markets and tempted by the international food fair and fresh produce vendors. In the evening, as the sun goes down, get ready for a touch of magic with Viva's first digital stage.
"Spirit and Place" is the theme of the years Viva la Gong – exploring creativity, connections, our natural environment and individual and community spirit.
Wollongong is a diverse city with over 80 different cultural groups that call Wollongong home making it one of Australia's most culturally diverse cities. From this diversity has emerged Wollongong's vibrant, resilient, regenerative, and creative spirit - and we think that's worth celebrating.
Viva la Gong is a free family-friendly event that will take place on Saturday 12 November 2011 at MacCabe Park, in the heart of Wollongong’s CBD.
Last year Viva la Gong attracted around 10, 000 people to the festival site at MacCabe Park.
